I was born and raised in Switzerland and after my studies worked with disabled people. I’ve been involved with Contact Improvisation for some 25 years now. From 1989 till late 1991 I was living in Berlin where I did the biggest part of my training in dance and Body-Mind Centering® oriented bodywork. It was at Tanzfabrik in Berlin where I started to teach CI. After the break down of the Berlin wall I was invited to teach in Potsdam where I was among the founders of the now well known dance festival (Potsdamer Tanztage). In the early 90ies I came back to Switzerland and ever since have been working as free lance teacher and performer in many countries and for a very diverse public. Currently I teach regularly professionnal dance companies as well as non professionnals. I also work for professionnal training programs in dance and acting. My performance work has been presented in Switzerland as well as in Italy, France, Germany, and Cyprus. My teaching is strongly influenced by Steve Paxton, Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen, Dieter Heitkamp, Nancy Stark Smith and Anna Halprin who have all been my teachers at various occasions.
Urs Stauffer è nato e cresciuto in Svizzera e dopo i suoi studi ha lavorato con persone disabili. Sono circa 25 anni che pratica la Contact Improvisation. Dal 1989 al 1991 ha vissuto a Berlino dove ha svolto la maggior parte del suo training in danza e body work orientato verso il Body-Mind Centering®. Ha iniziato a insegnare CI al Tanzfabrik di Berlino. Dopo la caduta del muro è stato invitato ad insegnare a Potsdam dove fu uno dei fondatori del Potsdamer Tanztage, il rinomato festival di danza. All’inizio degli anni 90 è tornato in Svizzera e da allora lavora come insegnante e performer free lance in diversi paesi e per un pubblico molto diverso. Attualmente insegna regolarmente per compagnie professionali e non ed in diverse scuole di danza e teatro. Le sue performance sono state presentate in Svizzera, Italia, Francia, Germania e Cipro. Il suo insegnamento è fortemente influenzato da Steve Paxton, Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen, Dieter Heitkamp, Nancy Stark Smith e Anna Halprin che sono stai suoi insegnanti in varie occasioni.
